who they are
Triprocket was formed with a desire to write & perform music in a poptronica style, while creating lyrics that capture the multi-facets of human emotion.
Kaila Brasell is the voice of the band, and her prowess is highlighted by her legendary “one-take” vocal tracks in the the studio and dynamic performances onstage. Bobby R provides the musical direction and is responsible for the majority of the group’s remixes. He has also achieved a long list of outside production and remix credits in diverse genres in recent years. Kaila and Bobby have collaborated on various projects previously to Triprocket, enjoying moderate success on the dance club charts in the mid-90's. Veteran drummer Matt Tinonga has provided organic and mechanical beats from Triprocket's conception. John Inman joined the band on guitar in January 2002. John is also an accomplished solo artist with his group, The John Inman Netwerk , which delves into instrumental rock and fusion on their two releases “Modeus Eclectic” and “skiesWIDEopen”. Each of the members’ musical backgrounds play a large role in their sound. Triprocket’s comparisons to Garbage are well-founded, as Kaila, Bobby, Matt, and John all share that common thread of influence. Kaila also cites Aimee Mann, Elvis Costello, Sarah McLachlan, Matthew Sweet, and Kate Bush for her influences. Bobby gathers inspiration from his love for Brit-pop bands such as Supergrass, Charlatans UK, Boo Radleys, XTC, Blur, and Ash, to electronic artists as BT, Curve, Fatboy Slim, Bjork, Groove Armada, Felix Da Housecat, Daft Punk, and Basement Jaxx. Matt has an appreciation for club dance music and alternative rock, while John revels in the 80’s guitar rock from the likes of Journey and Def Leppard, along with progressive jazz and fusion. What assembles from this is a melodic loopy beat, with equal amounts of edgy guitar and dreamy synth textures. Complete with catchy vocal hooks and poignant lyrics. |

| Madalyn Sklar for GoGirlsMusic.com“From the start of this CD it's mesmerizing, taking you on a trip of the senses. It's techno pop at it's absolute finest. Vocalist/guitarist Kaila Brasell is truly amazing. I love her vocals. This is one CD that is a must hear!” |
| Laura Turner Lynch for Kweevak.com “Their songs are an edgy blend of guitar driven rock tunes infused with dance beats, an electronic bass and powerful female vocals. This CD has a unique sound that melds the hard foundation of rock with a modern techno groove. 'The Ride' is a musical trip with its driving beat, high-octane guitar rifts, skilled key work and revved up vocals. 'Secret Garden' has a catchy electronic beat, diverse vocal inflections and beguiling guitars and keys. Triprocket's version of the 'Immigrant Song' is impressive. A hard song to cover but Kaila is up to the challenge with her commanding vocals. The instrumentation captures the original mystical energy of the tale yet their own techno fingerprints give the song a whole new dimension., which should expand an audience for this creative inventive band. Triprocket is out of this world!” |

Warning: Coming down from "Romeo's Ex" may require large doses of Zanax! The album is a total trip from start to finish, leaving us say (quoting track 2 "The Ride"), "I'll ride the triprocket." Triprocket features the all-star line-up of: Kaila Brasell (vocals), Bobby R (keyboards), Matt Tinonga (drums), and John Inman (guitar). Kaila and Bobby formulated the early origins of Triprocket by doing some Pre-Trip collaborations in the mid-90's. These tracks reached moderate success on the club charts prior to the final infusion of Triprocket. John hopped on board with the band in January 2002 to added his infectious rhythm (also to be heard in his other band, The John Inman Netwerk). Since their inception, the band has released two full-length albums of all original material (their self-titled debut, and "Romeo's Ex") and a double-disc remix album which includes some previously unreleased tunes (the 2003 effort, "Putty In Their Hands - Thrills & Chills"). Through their well crafted writing, the group has gained the attention of listeners and viewers via The Real World - New Orleans, Dragonball Z, NEMO Music Conference (Boston), and the Atlantis Music Conference (Atlanta). Triprocket's style throughout the album is one of techno-rock (or "pop-tronic" as the bands also refers to it as). Highlights of their stellar new album include: "The Ride," "Mine," "Calling Out," "Immigrant Song," and "Pretend." "The Ride" is a full-fledged rocker that features riffage reminiscent of Jimmy Page or Neal Schon of Journey. "Mine" is pure Garbage (the band, that is!). Garbage's own eclecticism bleeds it's way into Triprocket's writing of "Mine." "Calling Out" features a fantastic psychedelic intro courtesy of the reigns of Bobby R. "Immigrant Song" leaves you with images of Robert Plant himself shaking the rafters by shouting "We come from the land of the ice and snow." Kaila's own vocals reverberate through the room on this song, and Mark Akin adds a shredding solo that ends with a very cool effect. Finally, call it our mushy side, but the piano line in the ballad "Pretend" was absolutely beautiful. Overall, as mentioned before, the album is a complete trip (pun intended). From bombastic rockers to the more casual ballads, "Romeo's Ex" hits the full spectrum and comes highly recommended. The album features 15 tracks and runs for 59 minutes and 31 seconds. |

This trips a trap--Trip
Rocket performance review. Went down to Clearview over the weekend to check out
a band that a friend had been raving about before I moved back from NYC. The
bands name was Trip Rocket, and they were playing at a shindig called
Women Rockin 4 Women. So, I took myself, my friend, & my
Nikon and went to the show. Met the band (the guys arehow do you say ittres cool). Spoke with Kaila. She gave me a CD & told me about Trip Rocket. What I ascertained was this: they are into the electronic vibeyet with a little bit of guitar. However, her vocal influences are from the likes of Sheryl Crow (as she cited). She spoke of colors that reminded me of Stereolab (pink, orange, etc ). Yet, that is where the comparison ends. Their set started, & I have to admit that they blew me away. They have this groovadelic, thumping sound that I have never heard live before. At least not in an ensemble like that. Hips swayed as synth-laced guitar driven beats made the air fill with danceable waves. Kailas voice saturated the dense, smoke filled room & bounced off the four walls. Trip Rockets energy was contagious as heavy-laden drum work pounded driving the audience into a semi-primal state. I expect good things from this group in the future. They have great style, rhythm, vocals, and musicianship. Chemistry that works. I cant wait to see them again. |
| DallasMusic.com - "You miss some of these hooks because they are too subtle to the point of nonexistence". |
| Listen.com - Triprocket offers a blend of blissed-out House, deep-space symphonic Trance, and dark Trip- Hop. Kaila Brasell adds husky, mournful, alto vocals over rainy-day grooves embellished by searing lead guitar. -Noah |
| DallasMusic.com, October 1998: ..."a techno-rock
band with a monster groove"... Blast off with Triprocket, a techno-rock band
with a monster groove. Here is one local band with a unique sound. They remind
me of Susan Vega gone electronic... It's good to hear a female vocalist that
doesn't scream & whine like all those Alanis-like frontwomen. Kaila Brasell
has got her own voice that needs to be heard. The programmer , Bobby R is very
talented. There aren't very many good programmers out in Dallas, but he is one
of the few. I found myself soet of hypnotised by track 5. En Rount really takes
you away. Courtney Smith, MTV News, May 4, 1998: ..."most innovative sound in Dallas"... ..."got a reception from the audience that not many bands were getting, since people actually danced. They're great live performers!...I say, go triprocket." |
